Since skin boat people venture into this site I thought I would share some startling news. Two friends and myself have fairly low volume W. Greenland skin kayaks (Low volume but not radical). At a recient pool session, a good woman padler, about 40 lbs. lighter than the owners of the kayaks attempted a paddle float reentry into the boats. could not get in without sinking the kayaks - due to float bags and no bulkheads they take in an enormous amount of water. Every time she got back in, the boat was floating but underwater. This is why when people on this board ask about bulkheads, you're crazy not putting them in. All that float bags do for you is allow you to recover your boat.However you take in about 4 times the amout of water compaired to a bulkhead kayak.
