: In this era of third party politics.....I will throw in another possibility...check out www.homegrownboats.com. These folks have put together a great video on building a woodstrip kayak....especially for a first-timer like me.

I have read both of the mentioned books...found them both very helpful in some different ways. I also have found Vaclav's book to be of help as well. I have read/viewed and talked with as many builders as possible. It seems the more, the better....and even more important its' just a lot of fun. I suspect I have crossed the lines from interest...to obsession...to addiction(just ask my wife!).

I will throw in one more thing to contemplate...have you considered Jay Babina's Outer Island? I am building the OI...it paddles as beautifully as it looks. You can check it out at: http://www.seacanoe.org/outrisle.htm

Whatever you do..have fun. Bob

I am about to build a 17' kayak for a winter project. After some research, I
: am torn between the Endeavor 17 and the Great Auk. I have read Moore's
: book KayakCraft and it was excellent, but I have not read Nick's book. Has
: anyone read both or seen plans for both the Endeavor and the Great Auk?
: Any suggestions on the best plan/instructions to follow for a skilled
: woodworker, yet kayak-building rookie?

: Thanks, mark
