I'm cutting my cedar strips to get ready for my winter project of building my first cedar-strip kayak (Guillemot Expedition). I'm fascinated by patterns created by different types of wood. Does it make sense to stain cedar strips to get the same result? Cedar seems like it will be easy to work with (much easier than walnut strips or other hardwoods). Has anyone ever tried to stain the cedar strips and then use them to create imaginative patterns? Interested in you feedback - pros and cons...
