I have rarely felt the need to slow down any sander. The exception would be when working with a surface that heats up and loads the sandpaper. All my sanders are single speed but if I do need to slow one down I have a varriable speed control that is intended to be used with a router. It works just fine with sanders and serves double duty with the router. I think it was about $30.00 and is available in many of the mail order catalogs. Happy sanding, Steve
