Staining plywood

Hi, I'm new here, and also new to boat building. A friend and I just built our second Cape Charles 15.6. His was first, mine second. I bought some less than beautiful Okoume plywood, so I decided to stain the whole thing first. (golden oak) It really looks beautiful and I love it so much. I'm going to build a Chesapeake 17, next. I keep hearing tidbits here and there about whether or not expoxy will bond with the wood if it's been stained first.
My experience has been very positive, and I've had absolutely no problems whatsoever. The boat looks great and it's been done for a few weeks now and I'm not seeing any problems at all. My question is this...has anyone experienced problems with stained wood under epoxy? Is this something I shouldn't do?
It seems to be just fine, but I'd like some input before starting my next boat.
Got the plywood today, I'm just waiting for the plans to arrive.
Thanks!
Mary Martha
PS: I've found this forum to be VERY VERY helpful!!! Maybe someday, I'll gain enough experience to share some of my and my friends ingenuity. I love how everyone uses their creativity and minds to find better ways of doing things...building kayaks is really a great way to exersize the brain, too.
I'm enjoying reading all of the interesting ideas!
