Hello Spidey, Craig, & the rest

I'm a little (well, alot) confused.

: 1st off, polyester resin sticks just fine over epoxy, it's done every day. I
: have PR on my hull and I can guarantee it sticks tenaciously. The
: mechanical bond is at least as good as varnish, probably much better.

So, pr sticks to cured epoxy.

epoxy sticks to cured pr.

life are wonderful ! since gelkote is pr, we can use gelkote over epoxy. this is according to what you say, & ofcourse you tried it, but not according to what Craig is saying, hence my confusion.

: Next, Polyester resin will chemically bond to itself until a wax/styrene mix
: is incorporated into a resin coat, at which time you will revert to a
: mechanical bond.

hey spidey, come on... what's this "smart talk" ?

I don't understand any of it. can you use (plain) English.

are you saying pr WILL stick to itself when one of the selves is cured ? & then it will be "chemical bond" ? ok.

now what's this stuff about adding wax to the pr (?)

what is the purpose of adding wax to the pr ?

& what is the difference between "chemical" & "mechanical" bonds ?

which of the 2 is better ? stronger ?

why would I want one type of bond (chemical/mechanical) over the other ?

: Lastly, make sure you mix the wax/styrene into the resin THOROUGHLY before
: catalyzing, otherwise you'll learn to really hate sanding . . .

what is catalyzing ?

isn't pr made of just one part ?

or is there a second part (catalyzator) that makes is harden ?

I never worked with pr, hence these basic questions.

& what's the styrene all about ?

the styrene I know is white sheets of soft plastic type material that is used for backlit posters & signs. please enlighten me.

: Best Regards, Spidey

thx. but I already got lots of regards. 8-)

now I need some salvation from my confusion..... 8-(

thx
