The part that turns me off with this is the "formaldehyde-based". I believe this stuff is fairly toxic.

Again, yellow carpenters glue is stronger than the wood. Yes, if it gets wet, it desolves, but the moisture is none too good for the epoxy-wood bond either, so the glue failure is the least of your worries.
