I've built two boats now using lauan (1/4" for the hulls and 1/8" for the decks). I am very happy with both boats. There is quit a bit of difference in the look of the lauan out there. My first was purchased from Lowe's and was very light but had an interesting grain pattern that when finished had more of a "three dimensional" look (like maple) than did the darker mahogany that I purchased for the second boat. The grain of the second is pretty but takes on the flatness of plywoood and dosen't "dance" in contrast as you walk around the boat. How does okoume grain compare as far as the depth of grain when finished?

Thanks Bailey--
