Filling in the Weave

I've completed all the fibreglassing of my Great Auk both inside and out, and have rolled on the "fill coat" of epoxy on the outside in order to "fill" the weave. My question is how "fill" does the weave need to be prior to varnishing? In some spots on the outside, the pattern of the glass still shows through while in other spots the surface is flat and shiny with resin. Please note that in some rough spots (most commonly near the edges) I'll have to put some skim coats of epoxy to smooth up the surface before sanding (ie. avoid sanding into the glass)in order to get a "fair" finished surface, but in other currently "fair" spots where the fibreglass weave still shows through I'm wondering will the 6 coats of varnish take care of it (ie. make it totally smooth in the end)?
