: Mark: I just started working on the Cormorant 16 a few weeks ago. It's my
: second S&G (so I'm not that experienced) and my first built from plans. At
: this point I've got the hull stitched and glued together, and 'glassed
: inside. Here are my impressions so far: The "numbers" that Grant
: provides to loft your patterns from are excellent. Having never done this
: before I was able to produce hull panels that went together beautifully.
: The ends of each keel panel need to be cut and shaped after you partially
: stitch things together - where they "upturn" into the shear
: panels. But that was easy.

: The shape is very pleasing - and quite different from the Chesapeake 16LT I
: built from a kit this winter. I like the Chesapeake a lot too, by the way.
: It's my wife's boat and the Cormorant will be mine. One of the main
: differences is that the Cormorant is a symetrical design with the widest
: beam right in the middle. The Chesapeake (and I think most kayaks I've
: seen) are Swede-form with the widest beam aft of the center. This means
: the Cormorant cockpit is almost dead center in the boat. Another
: difference is the way the shear panels rise at the ends - and the keel
: panels rise to meet them.
