Ross: Go for the wax. I have made a number of fiberglass kayaks and associated bits over the years, and I always used several coats of wax under the PVA. Nothing fancy, just Johnson's paste wax, the kind in the yellow can. Even on a beat up old boat mold things always released, sometimes with a few thin wedges (popsicle sticks) at the edge to start things. Recently, having no PVA I made some seats from a fairly rigid home made mold using only several coats of wax. No problems once I got the edge started. These seats were made with polyester resin, but I doubt if that would make a difference.

: Shawn,

: The plug over which I built the seat was made intentionally flexible. I too
: had a fun time extracting the seat, but I was able to twist and flex the
: seat and mold together so that I freed the seat incrementally. I had let
: the seat cure overnight on the mold. Next time I think I'll wax and polish
: the mold before applying pva and see if that makes it any easier.
