Thule racks don't require drilling. The problem is that the clips that attach the feet to the car compress the weatherstripping in some cases, which can cause wind noise while driving and water leaks. Thule typically spells this out in the installation notes in their fitting chart, but perhaps Scotty's Thule dealer didn't tell him that. My car has double seals (one on the door and one on the frame), so it's not an issue. Perhaps Scotty's Sidekick has a different arrangement.
