This is a follow-up to the thread on the River City Kayaks.

I posted a mail to the builder and am including the original note and the response. Enjoy!

> Saw some questions about your boats on the guillemot building bulletin
: board. Thought I'd get some more info for myself and help answer some other
: people's questions at the same time ;) Just FYI, I plan to post the
: response to this message, unedited, on the guillemot board.
:
: 1. Could you describe your construction process? Items builders might be
: curious about, such as, do you remove wires, number of layers and oz. of
: glass, epoxy laying process, etc.
:
: 2. Your Atlantic boat, (my interest here), looks like a Greenland style.
: Have you paddled the Pygmy Tern or a comparable CLC boat, and how would you
: compare yours?
:
: 3. Do you offer other lay-ups besides glass?
:
: 4. Saw your price includes shipping. How do you ship the boats?
:
: 5. Could you describe some, if any, of the custom options you offer on your
: boats?
:
: Thanks for your time, I'm sure the information will be of interest to the
: community.

: Take care and keep up the good work!

I clip and sand off my copper wires. I use 6 oz. cloth on the hull and decks of the boats(kayaks) and use3.5 oz on the inside and outside of my canoes.

I haven't paddled any of the other boats. I designed the Atlantic 14' because when I was at a outdoor show women asked me if I could design a shorter boat than the Mississippi 17' and lightweight so they could lift it on to their cars etc.

I only offer fiberglass lay up because I feel kevlar is overpriced and 98% of the people wouldn't care if their boats weighed 2-4 lbs heavier.

I hand deliver my boats exception abroad orders or if I am so back logged I'll ship them common carrier----- I enjoy to travel and roadtrips are a part of my journey..............

One of the most common options is making the cockpit 3-4" longer and 2-3" wider. Also, laminating tie-dye and batik designs on the boats before I lay them up. I also make brass rudder systems with laminated blades. I created a sail kit for my own personal boat, but I need to work the kinks out of it.

Take care
