This past weekend there was an episode on the History channel that showed kayaks being used during WWII. One really strange contraption was what they called a"submersible canoe" It resembled a small kayak with a tall deck that held one occupant. It had a small electric motor with rudder and dive planes on the aft and weighed 600lbs. It was equipped with scuba gear, depth gauges and a compass. It had a range of 12 knots at 4.5kph(max speed) 40 knots at 3kph with a max depth of 120 feet. It was repotedly used only 5 times to place explosives directly on the hull of enemy ships. The footage of it showed the driver going out to a ship and simply "parking" it on the bottom then swimming up to place the explosive and retrieving the boat/sub/thing??? and driving away. They called it "sleeping beauty". Thought u guys might enjoy seeing it as the History channel oft repeats episodes. It was on this past Sunday during some kind of marathon. will see if i can find the exact name and episode for ya.
