In Response To: What is the other board? (Layton)

: WHat is the address of the other board? I'm curious. I found it at recreational boat building. It is one of the first boards I found on the subject, however it caters to people who are building traditional wood boats, and has only one tenth it's responses from canoe and kayak builders. I believe, the original thread was from someone who wanted to glass an old wood boat. They said that it would trap moisture that was already there. Another poster said that glassing a wood boat was never a good idea, even on a new wood boat. Still anther said that indeed glass was a good idea even for a properly prepared older boat. I have built dinning room tables, speakers, wood house trim, bed frames, rabbit cages, hand carvings, custom shelving, cabinetry and done refinishing. The sticth and glue boat sounds like a wonderful start for me. Even though I have all the tools to make a stripper, I still feel that it is better to start simple somehow. A local won a race in a Osprey HP here and came in 10 minutes faster than the nearest fiberglass entry. I want to have a boat that I can take out to the ocean, even on rough days, but I still want to be able to be fast in semi calm water races. I want great lines, but tracking over turning in the performance trade off. Still I need to be able to do the mangroves, so nothing over 17 feet or so. Also I want low profile over dry ride, and some immunity to weathercocking. I prefer a smaller cockpit to a larger one, and I like the multi piece decks over tortured decks. I definitely don't want a rudder.
