: So here is the question: I'm dying to get to the woodworking fun of building
: the cockpit coaming and rim. I'm planning to 'glass over the coaming when
: it is complete. Is there any reason to fill the weave now? Can I do it at
: the end when the cockpit is done and 'glassed? It seems like it would save
: time - since I'm going to have to feather the coaming 'glass into the deck
: anyway.

Me too. I actually did one fill coat on the outer deck, but not the outer hull. I glassed the outside of the hull with 2 layers of 6 oz. (1 day apart, not at the same time, though you can do both at once)--I then glassed the inside. I should've done the outer hull fill coat then, but I wanted to get the boat back on the forms so it wouldn't "creep"!. I'm thinking I'll do the fill coats on the outer hull and on the outside sheer at the same time.

I plan to rough up the hull well with a 3M scratch pad before the fill coat to get a better mechanical bond. Don't use too much sandpaper as you'll sand right into the weave.

My coaming is finally done--photos tomorrow!

Shawn
