I have done it on several of my boats. i purchased 3/8" brass tubing from my local scrap metal dealer and sawed it in half lengthwise. I then drilled countersunk holes (using a centerdrill) to accept #4 or #6 brass oval head screws. I then screwed it over the end of the boat and bedded it in 3M-5200 sealant. I bent the brass around the tip of the bow of my boats and down the stem and back along the keel about 4 feet, same on the stern.

the photo shows the brass rub stip I installed on an OuterIsland.

: Has anyone tried using metal skid plates? I was down in Mexico and came
: across a place which had kayaks with aluminum skid plates (only on their
: older fiberglass boats). They seemed to think that since their Catamarans
: had them why not the kayaks.
