Dan, I like the brads method which I got from Mac McCarthy's book. I use the brads that I can ONLY get from Mac. They are .050" diam. with a 1/8" head and about 1 1/8" long. I use scrap strips about !" long for a gasket. These nails hold much better than staples, pull out easily without damaging the boat. and leave a tiny round hole which I fill with tooth picks. All nails and brads found locally are too large. Mac sells a hand full for $5 and they are reuseable.
