: I just finished putting the first coat of epoxy on my hull. (this is my first
: stripper). In some areas I can see lighter color blotches on the dark red
: cedar strips, which I would guess is glue that didn't get sanded off.
: Should I wait 24 hrs. till the epoxy hardens and sand that area again ? Or
: just till the epoxy is cured enough to attack the spot with a cabinet
: scraper ? When I get around to sanding the deck should I be able to see
: these areas by wetting out prior to using epoxy ?

Addison, I may be mistaken, but, I believe there is a window of a few hours where you will have a chemical bond and then after curing, will only have a mechanical bond. If you scrape and/or sand the surface where the blotches are you will possibly have most of the hull set up and the recoated area will still be green. May want to ask some folks about the differences there in adhession and whether there will be a problem.

Yes, if you have glue in the pores of the deck as well, wetting it out slightly will show it. When you wet the wood, you may have to lightly resand the whole surface to eliminate fuzz. Usually, if you look close, you can see a discoloration in the glue soaked area without wetting. It usually has a little bit of shine to it, but, not always.

On your next boat, and as per habit, there will be another, when you glue up with yellow or white glue, just let it run down the wood. It usually will not soak in unless it is under pressure. Like wiping it. I have found that using a damp cloth tends to dilute it, as it is water soluable, and it will soak in easier. I let the glue get a skin on it and in about an hour or so, it may peel off, or scrape off with light pressure on the scrapper. Any longer that that and it takes a little more effort. Unless it is pressed into the wood, it is usually just on the surface and comes off easily. Not much help now, but.........??
