In Response To: RAKA questions (Tom Kurth)

: Been saving my penneys and nickels and am about to order enough glass and
: resin to do about three boats. Have some questions: 1) I've decided to
: take the frame I built for the18'5" Walrus and cover it with
: 1/8" luaun and lightweight glass. For paddling in quiet waters should
: I be OK to resin the inside and glassing the outside with a single layer
: of 2.3 ot 3.75 oz. cloth? What weight and type of tape should I use for
: the seams?

I would recomend 6-10 oz tape... if you are going to be in quite waters you may want to think about just gluing the panels to the stringers and putting one layer of 6 oz glass over the whole smash... it would save time and probably be stronger then you need.

: 2) The later boats will be strip-built in all likelihood. Which RAKA resin
: and hardener are appropriate if I want a clear coat and I don't want to
: have to deal with blushing problems?

get the 350 hardener... it doesn't blush at all

: 3) Will RAKA products be compatible with leftover West System resin and
: glass?

yes it will...

: Thanks, Tom

hey tom

raka with the 350 hardener... "slightly more expensive" is just as good as west system... it will turn the wood on your boat a little darker then west will in my opinion the darker the wood the better...

hope this helps
