: >Shawn I have just flipped the hull on my Guillemot "L" to begin
: on the deck. These plans are Nick's and the "L" is 18ft long and
: now available from him. I just hope my kayak never ends up too close to
: yours, you are a true artist. This is my first and I would like to
: "flatten" off the little point at the top of the deck forms to
: facilitate a decorative strip right down the middle, what do you think?
: Would this eliminate one of the endearing qualities of the Guillemot?
: Also, what epoxy and glass do you plan to use? Thanks for being so helpful
: with your free info! Ray

: Hi Ray, The poor photo quality that the Internet permits allows me to show
: you a boat that doesn't look quite as good in real life! Believe me, I
: have plenty of gaps between my accent strips, and a bunch of
: "unfair" spots I sanded all night last night! --To everyone
: coming to the W. Coast Rendezvous: please don't look when you see it in
: person! ;)

: At any rate, the only endearing quality that little point has is to deflect
: water. If you have a wave break over the bow, that "gets the water
: rolling", so to speak, and the water will drop off the sides of the
: deck before it all washes back into your lap. I wouldn't think water would
: clear THAT much slower, but on my Chesapeake with a rounded deck, a lot
: more water washes down the deck than would run off a peaked deck.

: I bought 5.5oz. 50" e-glass from Hamilton Marine
: http://www.hamiltonmarine.com They had an April sale for $2.99/yd, so I
: couldn't pass that up! I bought the 3-gallon epoxy kit from Raka for $110.
: I used Raka epoxy and glass for the Chesapeake, and was pleased with the
: performance. Raka is great, low-priced stuff. I definitely recommend it.

: Coming to the Rendezvous?

: Shawn
: Is the rendezvous you guys are talking about the Wooden Kayak Festival at Fort Worden? I have RV reservations for Aug. 18/19/20 on the beach, I'll be there, my wife and my dog but I'm not too sure about this strip built. It's a long way off but seems like there's a lot to do on it. Maybe. Thanks again. Ray
