: Should I add three layers of glass back into the gouge I sanded? And will it
: blend under the varnish without showing the glass where I sanded through
: it? Any good tips for blending it back in?

I'd replace the glass ply for ply with .5" minimum overlap. Make sure you lay up the new repair plies in the same orientation as those replaced. Taper out the resin around the area and it should look good.

I hope this comes out right and makes sense.
