: Did you know you can take four boats into the BWCA this year.

: Here is the BWCA's web site www.bwcaw.org/

Thanks for posting the BWCA URL. When I went the limit was 4 boats and 9 people. That would allow for mostly double canoes, with the occasional group of single kayaks and canoes with 3 in them. It is a reasonable size for a traveling group. Campsites are sized to support this many tent sites. A large Scout troop would have to split into several smaller groups.

I suppose they change these things from time to time, so it would be best to get current rules and planning info.

Great place to go, though, for canoe or kayak. Longer lakes can get quite choppy in a wind, which can make canoeists long for a covered deck and spray skirt. Shorter lakes can be enjoyable interludes betweeen portages.

Bring your snorkeling gear (mask, fins, and snorkel) if you have them. Our group recovered 6 nice fishing lures that had snagged in the rocks. The fish there have never seen a diving human and have no particular fear of them, and the water in many lakes is brilliant and clear.
