Hi Scott,

Changing from 6 oz to 4 oz will give you a weight reduction but also a reduction in strength. Consider you paddling environment and your lay-up skills before going to lighter cloth.

I use light construction because I prefer to paddle small [too small for jetskis] inland rivers and lakes.

If I planned to paddle in large lakes, the Great Lakes or in salt water, I would consider 6 oz cloth to be "light" and probably apply a double layer in strategic places.
