I stained the combing lip of the Osprey I built last year. Here are a few things I learned.

1. Use a water based stain (and even then test epoxy a stained section before you commit to a section of the boat)

2. Be sure that the piece is completely cut and sanded before staining.

3. Remember that most epoxies darken the wood slightly. If you are looking for just a slight darkening of the wood test the epoxy you use on an unstained piece before you commit to stain.
