The picture in my book shows fiberglass going all the way around the lip. I don't bother anymore. I did that a few times when I had some foam I was using for the lip. The foam needed it, wood doesn't. I do fiberglass over the top of the lip and down the inside a bit. This is mainly to cover the exposed end grain of the vertical strips.
