I have been making chairs with purpleheart for over 10 years. the back splats are made from four layers 1/16 " thick and are bent in a compound curve. the only glue I use is Titbound alphatic , and have had no problems. Paduk is the only wood that has given me problems, but if the surfaces are cleaned with denatured alcohol there is no problem. You might want to try the alcohol on the purpleheart but I don't feel you need to.
