Sounds like a good idea to me. I'd use a scrap of wood for a form, instead of the paddle handle though

I could decide in advance what the diameter of the handle should be and make that wood scrap the proper size.

You can make the ferrule first and (hopefully) the resin on it will be hard by the time you finish the rest of the paddle.

If the scrap of wood is small enough you can use a plastic food storage bag to vaccuum bag it while it cures. (try doing THAT with a full size paddle!)

You can put the scrap with the completed carbon or glass layup under an electric light, or a heat lamp, or a hair dryer, or throw it in the oven at a low heat to accelerate the curing.

Just a few ideas. Hope they help.
