Hi John I've done it both ways with S&G kayaks. I think the biggest difference is how you do it not if you do it. For ultra light glassing I would think pre-sealing would be a good idea but I find a lot of the ding resistance in an epoxy glass wood laminate is the epoxy soaked into the wood,reducing that epoxy can reduce the total amount of epoxy but also leave a slightly softer core material. If you were working over a long period of time presealing the wood would be a good idea. cheers-lee
