I mentioned I'd done a variant of the Yare, so to answer the questions -

Sea Kayaker had an article on the Skua 16 and I'd seen a friend's plans for the Yare (glanced at them one day) so when I came to building (and designing?), one thing I wanted was a sea boat (as usual) which meant a bow which would allow the sides to splay out all the way forward. I added an extra foot and a bit at the foreward end, changed the stern so that it was cut off a little more abruptly (nothing major) and fitted a transom to hang the rudder on. That means that in effect there would have been the equivalent of almost 6 inches if taken to the usual stern.

During building, bulkheads (ply) went in and 4 deck beams (laminated). There was also a keelson about 4 inches wide, a good idea considering the ply thickness and the possiblity of getting in and out on stoney beaches.

To get the "shape" I cut 7 lengths of thick scrap ply and put a notch in the sides at each end. I could clip these over the sides and slide them along to get a fair curve before fitting and gluing the deckbeams.

The aft deck has a flat section at the stern, about the length of the rudder blade so that control lines come out of a "sort of" bulkhead at the finish of the curved deck. A bit like the system Necky use.

Hatches are not flush which also helps a little with load volume. The aft hatch is relatively large.
