I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE BUT around here in San Diego the soft styrofoam body boards are pretty common. I have two and, because my old one was rarely used anymore, I converted into a floating bait tank. I found a standard 15" plastic wash basin (99 cents at one of the hundreds of 99cent stores in SoCal!). Then I took a jigsaw and cut an angled hole through the body board. (I angled the cut so the top of the basic would seat well below the top of the body board's top side. I punched holes with a hot poker through the edges of the basin before seating inside the hole I cut. Then I glued it with silicon glue. The basin sets deep enough for the round "cover" I cut out to fit on top. I fashioned a nylon hinge to fasten the cover to the board and added a velcro fastener to hold the cover shut while on the water. Why did I make this instead of just using one of those cheap portable "drag-about" bait tanks? Well, the extra body board was available those drag-about tanks can act more like a drag anchor at times. There's a live anchovy/sardine bait dock near where I stow my kayak so now I can have live bait floating alongside me(I use the same leash that was on the body board when I boat it--usually attached to one's wrist to avoid drifting in the surf). It drags hardly at all; doesn't require me carrying it on board; keeps the fish alive in their own seawater and provides easy access for me and my fishing buddy. If you'd like to see a pic, I'll take a shot with my digital this weekend and email it to you. Good luck! --DB
