Why Dynel ?

From what I understand, Dynel is has low stiffness and soaks up lots of Epoxy, which is advantageous for some boat hulls that are looking for a thick, resilient epoxy layer for waterproofing. For a paddle, you might get a lighter, stronger repair with boring old glass. Worried about glass splinters, perhaps?
