No, almost all of the shoreline is either privately owned or owned by the Salish/Kootenai tribes. There are 7 state park units along the lake, though, that the state is starting to develop watertrails between.

That's my favorite part of kayaking--I am not so fond of lugging a 60+ lb. pack up and downhill--however, summit views are always spectacular and worth the efforts.

Where are you from?

Glacier National Park has a few waterfront campsites on some of its lakes--muy specacular! There are also a lot of smaller lakes (smaller than Flathead) with some National Forest land bordering them--Seeley, Salmon, Swan, Hungry Horse, Holter, Canyon Ferry, Ft. Peck, Koocanusa.

I haven't paddled all of them, but I do plan to do a 1-2 night trip on Holter this summer.

I also plan to do some "commando" leave-no-trace camping on one or two of the islands in Flathead. Camping isn't technically permitted there, but I will leave no trace or leave the places cleaner than I found them.
