Jonathon, I've found that Thermarest Sportseats,like the one that comes with Pygmy kayaks, is a great way to improve just about any seat. Making your own fiberglass seat is usually a sign of kayak building addiction, carving a big chunk of minicell is the standard do-it-yourself seat, some production glass seats can be purchased for >$100. A good seat will follow from paddling a lot. So even a couple sheets of 3/4" minicell is a good place to start.
