Ed;

I made three strip built bulkheads for my kayak first using two layers of 6 oz cloth on each side and System Three Clear Coat.

I learned alot about wood outgassing, different resin absorbing charactaristics from stip to strip, working times of the resin and etcetera.

By the second bulkhead I had learned how to get fairly nice results and which technics I felt would give me better results. I was also able to test different fiberglass weights, tapes, polypropylene cloth, and peel-ply all in such a way as to make the bulkheads stronger without adding much weight.

I had worked with fiberglassing before but not with the variables specific to strip built kayaks.

It is best to practice on samples of the materials you used on your project and well worth the extra time and money.
