Hello Mike,

The core-box bit will work but it will not cut as nicely as a larger diameter coving bit - because the spinning blade of a core-box cuts perpendicuar to the grain it will have a tendency to push the strip to the side (or up/down depending on whether you side-mount the router or not). This can be dealt with if your router set-up includes very tight featherboards and a zero-clearance hole for the bit. The bull-nose or coving bit cuts parallel to the grain and does not push the strip to the side. The smaller diameter bull-nose bit will work also, but again, it will not cut as nicely as a larger diameter bit - as a general rule a larger diameter bit will not cause as much chip out (splintering) as a smaller diameter bit. Additonally, because the cutting edges of a larger diameter bit are traveling at a faster speed, you will also be able to feed the strip at a faster rate.
