removing glue

I bought a new CD Gulfstream a couple of weeks ago and I ended up removing the seat by cutting the bottom of the seat out. A piece of the seat is still attached to the bottom of the boat and the foam from under the seat is there too.

It looks like the glue will come out with acetone but I'm very afraid to put much of that stuff in the boat for fear of eating into the layup. Can anyone give some guidance in how to use the acetone to get this piece of fiberglass out of the boat without damaging the inside of the boat? I am truly not into just sitting outside in the rain and snow chipping away at it.

I tested it by putting some acetone on a paper towel and holding the towel to a spot of glue. Then I kind of pried at the glue with a putty knife. It seems the glue softens with the acetone but I'm very chicken about applying it.

All help will be appreciated.
