In good old days airplane is nothing more than sticks, cloth and an engine; usually in the shape of a bird , fish or a bullet. The shape is close enough for a kayat. With light weight spruce and heat strink dacron, why not give a it a short.

Check out "ground effect" shape wing. The design shape of the wing is wide relative to lenght. If fly at altitude of half the wing span, the plane needs very litte energy -- lighter engine. Because it flies so low, you do not need a licence.

For inspiration to design you kayaplane, check out the early pioneer in airplane design, They are facing the same challenge. Wish you best of luck.
