I thought spoke shave ia plane iron clamp to apair of wing shape handle. It cut away from your body plane style unlike a scraper. I never try a spoke shave on a boat, but for paddles you're better borrow someone's wood turnning lathe; for paddle face, sanding and scrapping works much better if you never use a spoke shave before.
