I have a quick question on how this BBS keeps track of what messages have been read and which are new since I last visited

My hard drive crashed over the weekend and I had to get it replaced. I had backed up my favorites, personal files, and history directory but as I come back here all of the messages show up as unread.

I know this is a little off topic but I had been saving a few threads to read later marked by thier unread status.

One other queston is there a way to mark a message as "read" without actually opening it up. Not that all of your post aren't facinating but some topic I don't have an interest in. Anyone else have a strategy for reading this I cna't keep up with the volume of messages.
