There aren't a lot of outdoors kayaking courses offered this time of year. Most of the organized training I've done has been through Atlantic Kayak Tours. Normally I'd refer you to their web site, but it seems to be down at the momment. You can reach them at 914-246-2187 or at 320 W. Saugerties Rd., Saugerties, NY 12477.

They teach according to the BCU program (British Canoe Union). They don't have any more courses scheduled this year, but they should have courses starting in May. Give them a call and get on their mailing list for a 2000 schedule. They have good, experienced teachers and very good equipment to rent if you don't have your boat ready or don't want to be banging it around doing rescues.
