In Response To: Storing kayaks overhead? (Mike Plumer)

My kayak resides up in the roof of the barn, hanging from its grab loops, suspended on two hooks screwed into the rafters. If I'm feeling strong, I pick the whole boat up and take it down. If I'm not feeling strong, I do one end, and then the other.

Eventually, I'll replace the hooks in the rafters with pulleys. Or at least snake a rope through it all. But that hasn't happened yet. I was going to use two ropes, one for each end. Until I realized I can do just fine with one, and reduce the lifting load by half.
