George Putz's book "Wood and Canvas Kayak Building tells you everything you need to know to build a Walrus.

My basic list of materials is a follows: total cost 1/2" 4x8 plywood forms $15 1/4" 4x8 chipboard strongback $9 4 cedar 2x4's for frame $28 Small amount of epoxy gluing frame together Already had 250 brass screws $28 6-1/2 yards canvas $53 1/2 package Monel staple $18 pakage Mahogany 1x6 $8 1/2 gallon Elast-o-Seal $18 gallon 1/2 gallon Snow-Roof $17 gallon Quart ext. latex semi-gloss color $8 6 mahogany 3/8 x 1-1/4 rubrails & keel $4 Misc. $20

This is from memory. Prices and quantities may be off a little bit, but this is a good estimate. I have enough paint and staples left over for one more kayak. I also have the forms and strongback left over. I could have cut costs in a few places, but didn't really want the extra work.

Here is a site about someones Putz http://home1.gte.net/monicac/kayak.htm

The picture below is the one I built being paddled by my wife.
