I would not consider a tandem. My wife and I had a double as our frst boat. It was awful. Having two boats is safer because you can assist in a rescue. In a double your are both in the drink. I have built several CLC boats. The hard chine boats are easy and cheap to build from plans. A strip boat will cost a little more weigh more and look much better.
