I built a ladder rack for my truck out of 2x4s and bolted kayak shaped cradles to it. I can now carry three kayaks and have been on several long distance trips without a problem. I use the post holes at the corner to anchor it, no drilling required. I have a drawing somewhere, email me if you're interested.
