Tony:

I have not gotten any of the insurance you talk about but I did make one conscious decision to "insure" my boat. At the stern endpour, a few inches forward of the toggle, I drilled a 9/16" hole through the boat. The hole will accept the U shaped shackle of one of those "Kryptonite" bike locks you see everywhere. I use that in conjunction with a long vinyl covered steel cable to secure the boat when I will be away from it. If it's on the van, I lock it up and thread the cable _inside_ the van and secure it there. On the beach at night, I might secure it to a tree. It's not Fort Knox, but I figure it will deter the casual opportunist.
