That sounds good, especially mixing the color. Is the putty any good structurally, or is it not filling the cracks between the strips? I guess the concern is that it might work loose in time.

When I did my Cosine Wherry, the instructions were to fill all the cracks with a creamy wood flour / epoxy, and then use a chemical stripper to get it off of the surface. That worked well, too.
