Look at pages 137 thru 140 in Nick's book.

Put an exta coat of epoxy extending a couple inches each side of the veneer when wetting out the wood prior to the glass cloth. Also put an exta fill coat (on top of the glass) in the same area. This will allow you to sand it smooth to minimize the bump.

I like to make my own name plate with calligraphy on tracing paper. Placing it under the glass cloth when epoxying. The cloth and the paper almost turn transpartent when wetted with epoxy and the ink is not affected. It adds a nice personal touch that will identify your boat or paddle forever.
