These prices are for a S&G Chesapeake 16LT:

Okume Stock - 2 sheets - $70 Raka epoxy - 1.5 gal - $65 Fibreglass - Tape & sheet- $65 Plans - 1 set - $48 Miscelaneous items - $50

TOTAL $298

Stripper canoe

Cedar for strips - $50 Epoxy (2 gals) - $110 Fibreglas - $75 Ash for trim - $20 Miscelaneous items- $75 Gil Gilpatricks book $15 (with plans) total - $345

I have seen others spend as much as $800 - $1250 for the same kayak and canoe. I have also run across some disasters while using our canoe or kayaks. People tell me stories of how they used a shortcut and were sorry and the results showed it.

Suggestion - Search for the design that best suits you, buy the plans(or a book the plans are in), search out deals on components (I have seen the same items 3x more expensive at different places), use the wealth of knowledge and help on this board, take your time and you will end up with an end product you will smile at.

Cut corners, try to wing it, do not listen to advice from those who have walked before you and you will regret it. Many times yu get cheap or free plans they are for something you do not want to build.
