Check the yellow pages in you area for boat builders......I live in OKC, OK and there is one builder of wooden boats listed here. He builds primarily plywood skiffs and such, but he has built some strip canoes. Surely there are at least a few builders in the Dallas area. I just finished a strip canoe.....it has taken me a good while to finish it, due to time constraints and other priorities, but the process is very enjoyable......I'm glad I did it. Also, there is a builder in Broken Arrow, OK that builds and designs strip-built kayaks...someone here probably know how to get in touch with him....he used to contribute many a commentary here (Mr. Roberts...). Don't give up finding a builder...there are a few here in this part of the country, and I'm sure that if you can find yourself a "Texan" that builds woodstrip kayaks, they'll be the biggest and best kayak builder you ever saw. If all else fails, get Nick's book, get up real early, and go for it.....you'll find a lot of helpful information here.

good luck and......GO SOONERS!
